COME ENJOY THE INCREDIBLE BEAUTY AND TRANQUILITY OF THE ABODE GARDENS
There are over 30 small and large garden beds surrounding the buildings of the main campus. Filled with perennials, bulbs, shrubs and trees, they provide a succession of blooms, foliage and sweet scents throughout the seasons. Nurtured by the elements, compost and gardeners, they attract bees, birds, butterflies, furry mammals and people. They include a zen garden behind the meditation hall, rock gardens, shade and wildflower gardens.
The largest garden, the Herb Garden, was designed by Melissa Clare in the early 80's. It's true name is the Joyous Garden of Healing as all those who enter will be blessed by its healing presence. The garden includes an octagon of roses cradled within the element corners, beds for medicinal herbs, culinary and tea herbs and berries. There are both shady and sunny lawn spaces that can be used for yoga, tai chi, celebrations, talks, and ceremonies. Benches and large flat stones are also present for reading, visits and silent contemplation.
There is a gentle interface throughout linking the natural environment and the more cultivated gardens. Plant-lined trails lead up to the Mountain Retreat Center and woodland gardens are found at the edge of the woods. Beauty abounds wherever one looks and walks. You are always welcome to help maintain it. Talk to Regina Jemila, our gardener, to learn more about our beautiful gardens and to lend a hand.

Your donations help us grow and bring the message of harmony to the world.
