Seasonal employment opportunities at the Abode

 

The Abode of the Message is an Eco-Sufi village set on an historic 350-acre Shaker complex in New Lebanon, NY.  From April – November, The Abode hosts a variety of groups and individuals who come to the campus for retreats, events, programs, classes and other activities.  Supporting these programs are  team of dedicated staff and seasonal employees.  In 2017, the Abode has the following seasonal employment opportunities available:

Guest Services

 

The Abode Guest Services team is responsible for managing all guest-facing activities during programs.  These activities include greeting guests and managing guest requests; providing operational support for program sessions; housekeeping support during and after programs; and general hospitality and guest management.

 

Under the direction of the Guest Services manager, these positions will be available during program season (April – November.)

 

  • Program support leader: Lead program support during events; manage program spaces and equipment; liaise with guest program leader; coordinate all aspects of supporting program. Must be available full-time on weekends. (Up to 40 hour per week; $14 per hour).
  • Housekeeping leader: Lead housekeeping team under Manager of Guest Services.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and have experience managing a team. (Compensation up to $14 per hour, depending on experience. Up to 25 hours per week)
  • Housekeeping assistants: Provide housekeeping services during and after programs.  Weekend and weekday shifts available. $12 per hour.
  • Front office assistants: The Front Office Assistant provides support for office, program and guest services at The Abode.  The front office serves as the primary hub of communication for all Abode program participants, community members and inquirers, as well as a small on-site bookstore. (Variable shifts. $12 per hour)

Maintenance

 

The maintenance department is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure at the Abode. Under direction of the Abode maintenance manager, maintenance associates will work on specified projects, perform repairs and provide general upkeep and maintenance services.

 

Maintenance associate candidates must have demonstrated experience in building trades specialization in carpentry, electrical, plumbing or general maintenance.  (Flexible shifts. $12-14 per hour, depending on skills/experience.)

 

 

Mountain camp

 

The Abode has a separate seasonal mountain camp on the top of its Mt. Lebanon campus and is looking for an experienced, multi-disciplined leader for the mountain team as well as mountain crew.

 

  • Mountain Manager: The Abode Mountain Manager is a seasonal position that is responsible for all operations of this secondary campus during the Abode program season (May – October.) The position oversees the three phases of mountain use: the opening of the mountain (beginning mid-April until first event), the event season (approximately May-September), and mountain closing (end of October).  The Mountain Camp can hold events for up to 200 people.
  • Mountain Crew: The Mountain crew will provide support for programs on the Mountain Camp, under the direction of the Mountain manager. (Variable shifts; up to $13 per hour, depending on experience.)
