The Abode Kitchen and Dining Hall

The Abode Kitchen and Dining Hall was built by the skill and craft of the Shakers, most likely sometime in the late 1700's. It’s easy to imagine that, just like for the Abode, the kitchen was a dynamic part of the community. The charm of the brick walls and the recessed brick oven makes the space such a historic and breathing gem on our campus.

Since the Abode’s founding in 1975, countless creative and talented cooks have passed through its kitchen, along with more tofu recipes than one could possibly imagine (tofu was quite the favorite here back in the day). The dining hall’s archway, offering a broad view of the working kitchen within, stands as a symbol of how deeply food and community are intertwined, and how the two will always remain hand in hand here at the Abode.

For Events, our kitchen and dining hall are available to rent, and we are able to curate a menu and meal plan for any occasion. If interested, please go to the Stay With Us page, or email events@theabode.org
