We invite you to welcome the New Year in sacred stillness and joyful prayer at the Abode of the Message. Join us for a Sufi Sesshin Retreat, beginning Tuesday evening, December 30 with supper, and closing Friday, January 2 with lunch. Guests are welcome to arrive between 2–5pm on Tuesday to settle in.
Rooted in the time-honored practices of our lineage, this retreat offers space to nourish the heart and remember the peace that is our true nature. As Rumi reminds us, “Now is the time to unite the soul and the world. Now is the time to see the sunlight dancing as one with the shadow.”
Sufi Sesshin weaves together silent sitting meditation with the heart-opening practices of Zikr and the Dances of Universal Peace, a rhythm of dance, sit, dance, sit, dance… interspersed with nourishing meals and time in nature.
Through this gentle alternation, we enter a space where movement and stillness, sound and silence, become one, a living balance of serenity, insight, compassion, and awareness.
As Murshid Samuel Lewis said,
“The Dances of Universal Peace and Zikr are an excellent way to prepare for meditation, and meditation is an excellent way to prepare for the Dances of Universal Peace and Zikr.”
