About Universal Worship
The Universal Worship Service celebrates the unity of religious ideals. Its does not promote a particular creed, church or religion. The light of the one truth shines in many different forms. The service is led by ordained ministers of the Inayatiyya (a Sufi path of Spiritual Liberty) and is open to everyone.
In each service, a theme is presented by the minister(s)/cherag(s) accompanied by the prayers of Hazrat Inayat Khan, and readings from the sacred texts. Candles are lit symbolically representing the religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and “all those known and unknown.” Spiritual paths such as the Native American, Goddess, or others may be added. Often music, song, dance or poetry are provided to assist in attuning to each religion.
Currently, Universal Worship is held at The Abode every Sunday (in person and on Zoom). Occasionally, the Universal Worship Service is offered as part of home blessings, children’s blessings, weddings, and funerals. The service is organized by the Inayatiyya Hudson Valley Center.
